RESOURCE SPECIALIST PROGRAM

The Resource Specialist Program (RSP) is a part of special education services. Students in RSP receive instruction from a Resource Specialist or RSP aide in a small group setting, individually, or in a classroom setting collaboratively with the general education teacher.  A student in a pull-out service model spends a short time out of the general education classroom to receive individualized instruction in identified areas of need.  This out of the classroom time can not exceed 49% of the school day.  The goal of RSP is to help students overcome or adapt to their specific problems in the classroom. A variety of materials and strategies are used for this purpose.

Students between the ages of 3 and 21 years, who are experiencing academic problems which may be caused by a specific learning disability, are eligible for the program.  Eligibility is established when a student has average intelligence and exhibits a discrepancy between ability and achievement due to one or more processing disorders, such as auditory or visual processing, memory, or attention.  The number of students in a Resource Specialist Program may not exceed twenty-eight.  Each student works on goals and objectives that have been developed by a team in an Individualized Education Program and based on assessment results.
