School Description

Mountain View School is a Pre-K -6 school located in Claremont and, its name implies, has a panoramic view of the San Gabriel Mountain Range. Our neighborhood school community is ethnically diverse and is proud of the many different languages which its children bring to the school. Mountain View is in the middle range of population in the Claremont Unified School District and has an enrollment of 420 students.

What's New

Students at Mountain View are preparing for the 21st century by learning new ways to use technology as an educational tool. Both instructional software and word processing programs can be practiced on our new Power Macs in the computer lab and in classrooms. A modified schedule has been implemented on Wednesdays so that all staff members can participate planning time and staff training.

Mountain View 3rd Grade Teacher, Carol Labarrere, was given the Claremont Unified School District "Spotlight on Excellence Award as an outstanding teacher. We are proud of her accomplishments, including her "Mustang Tutoring Program which she recently implemented at Mountain View School.

Parent Involvement

Parents are actively involved in their children's education and can be seen daily buzzing around the campus; helping in classrooms, organizing fundraising events, attending special activities, or simply eating lunch with their children in the cafeteria. Two parent organizations, School Site Council (S.S.C.) and Parent/Faculty Association (PFA) give parents opportunities for collaborative decision making and strong involvement in the school.

S.S.C. meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 1:30 p.m. PFA meets on the first Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m.

Programs and Activities

In traditional classrooms, Mountain View's students experience learning through hands-on activities to promote higher level thinking and understanding. To support our strong focus in science and technology, Mountain View has received several grants which have provided a variety of equipment and software that have enabled teachers to create a science lab in which students can explore scientific concepts in a lab setting.

The instructional program is supported and enhanced by a variety of school activities including physical education, music, dance, computer lab, afterschool enrichment classes, (arts and crafts, modern dance, science, computer class),tutoring, and homework assistance. A breakfast program is available for students and child care is provided on site before and after school by the Claremont Unified School District.
