About Kathie Stone

Welcome to Room 12! My name is Kathie Stone, and I have been teaching fourth grade for 10 years. But, I have been at Chaparral for 21 years, as my four children all attended Chaparral, and I was a PFA parent for all that time. I was an international flight attendant for thirty years, and I am able to bring global insights to my students.  I have had some health setbacks the last 2 summers, but nothing can keep me from teaching each new crop of fourth graders!

My philosophy of teaching is constructivism. I believe that students should construct a meaning for all curricula, through personal connections. I try to impart a variety of teaching strategies to appeal to all types of learning styles and to the multiple intelligences. We often do math through art, along with science and social studies. Engaging my students in learning is my teaching goal.

Science is my particular strength. I believe that through hands-on experiments, students discover a love for the concepts that will carry them through their lives. I have been involved with the Cal Poly Science Project for 3 years. This coming summer, I will be teaching the teachers!  This is a program to further teachers' understanding of science provided through a research grant. It has been an incredible experience for myself and for my students!

Please feel free to email me at any time with concerns you may have about your student's progress, or assignments. I do check my email daily.
