Dear Parents and Students,
Here are this week’s highlights:
SALT DOUGH ALERT!! We need 8 batches of salt dough by Tuesday morning. Mrs. Kayatta and I will be helping the students create their own maps of California! If you have free time at 1:00, please join us!
Thank you parents, for all the Kleenex! We should be set for most of the year. Thank you to Mrs. Ravi for setting up all the back to school materials for our class, and helping every day in the classroom!
Thank you to the Kumar Family, the Ravi Family, and the Bray Family for their donations to the Fourth Grade Golf Tournament Auction Basket.
Thank you to MRS. POWELL for giving the students of room 12 the expertise, love, and concern that only she can do so well! I am going to be full time from now on.
Math: We are working on Chapter 1, Number Sense, which should be mostly review. I have already noticed some students do not know their multiplication facts. This is most important! None of this is possible without automatic recall of multiplication facts. Small math groups began on Monday and Thursday.
Reading In addition to our Language Arts book, we will begin to read Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell next week. The students will be most intrigued.
Missing Assignment Sheets: Thank you parents for returning the Missing Assignment Sheets.
Remember: If your student is missing an assignment, it could be in the NO NAME Basket, or still in the student’s desk, because it was returned to be redone.
SCIENCE: Our field trip to the Cabrillo Tide Pools, will be on October 12. This will focus on food chains and the ocean ecosystem. Mrs. Weiner, Mrs. Ravi, Mrs. Christiansen, Mrs. Kayatta, Mrs. Koh, Mrs. Morwood, and Mrs. Hamadani have already volunteered to join us. Thank you!
Book Report: The book talk is due on September 27th, Wednesday. Students will sit in the front of the room and discuss the book each has read. It should be fun!
Field Trips: Cabrillo Tide Pools-10/12, Botanic Gardens-10/26, and La Brea Tarpits-10/31.
La Brea Tar Pits field trip is scheduled for October 31st, after the Halloween Parade.
Pinwheels for Peace: With our little buddies in Mrs. Maciariello's class, we placed our pinwheels on the lawn near Mills. These pinwheels express our hope for peace among all. It was a moving experience to see all the school's visual hopes for peace.
Back to School Night: It was wonderful to meet all of you on Wednesday evening! Thank you for sharing your enthusiastic children with me for this year! I see now why I have such a great class. They have eagerly involved parents! Thank you for all your gracious offers to help in class. Thank you also to our Room Parents: Mrs. Morwood, Mrs. Schartau, Mrs. Chaput, Mrs. Ravi, and Mrs. Bertrand!!!! Our banner volunteers are Mrs. Bertrand and Mrs. Hamadani. We are the luckiest class on earth! (and very peaceful also).
I plan to give my all to ensure that each student soars in academics.
REMINDERS: The student/parent compact is due as soon as possible with both signatures! Feel free to send in your deposit for the Pilgrim field trip ($45.00) when you are able. Our deposit is due on October 1.
Have a great weekend! Thank you for your support at home!
